Recorder Belts by BM1018

Hi, I'm BM1018 from Miss H's world famous 4th grade class and I'm going to talk to you about recorder belts. I hope you know what a recorder is.
For all of you yahoos out there who are thinking what are recorder belts - that is what I am going to tell you.
Recorder belts are kinda like Karate belts. You get one when you complete a song on the recorder. There is a red, white, yellow, green, and blue belt. When you get all of those you get a black packet with a bunch of songs. You have to play all of those to get a black belt. There's a couple more belts but they're hard to get.
This has been BM1018 reporting in on recorder belts.

Visit from Congressman Walz

by CB1127
Tim Walz is a congressman. He spoke at Bamber Valley. Tim Walz worked at Mankato high school and was born in West Point, Nebraska. About every week he commutes to Washington D.C. He said quote "My concern is the limited amount of resources." I think it was cool hearing from a politician.

by ER1212
On April 9th, 2009 our class got to go to an assembly and meet Tim Walz! During the assembly a fifth grader asked what his basic routine was and he said that he gets up at 6:00am. At 6:30 he goes to the gym, at 7:30 he reads ALL of the newspapers from southern Minnesota (including Rochester) on the computer and at about 8:30 he goes to meetings for the rest of the day.

Then, listen to this, he taught school in China and there are NO left handed students in China. And the Chinese people have not heard of fortune cookies! Mr. Walz also taught 4th, 6th, 11th, and 12th grades in Mankato, MN.

Ag in the Classroom by EB829

On March 24th, Miss H's World Famous Fourth Grade Class went to a lesson about Agriculture. Agriculture is about working on a farm. Bill Queasly and Kevin Connelly were the speakers. We learned that an average cow weighs 1500 pounds. Bill said the heaviest cow is probably 3,000 pounds! They feed cows alfalfa, corn, and beans mix. When a calf is born it weighs more than a 4th grader, 80 pounds! After calves drink their mothers milk for awhile, they eat this dried up milk like left over cheese and yogurt for about 60 days. People come to their farms and take a sample of the cows milk and bring it to the machine that tests it. They test it because there might be some medicine like penicillin in the milk. Our class thought it was fun.

The Class Hermit Crabs by AB630

We have 2 class hermit crabs. Their names are Kitty and Hermetta. They are different because Kitty is HUGE while Hermetta is small and shy. We started with three different crabs that we earned a year ago when the entire class met their reading goals. They have died and I brought Bobbi Jo who also died. Now we have Kitty and Hermetta donated by students.

Some of the adventures they've had was Bobbi Jo shedding a leg and then crawling around with one leg. And when Miss H left kitty on the table and she crawled off and Miss H could not find her. When she found her she was by the door trying to leave.

Magnets and Circuits by IM715

Hi, in class we've been studying magnets and electrical circuits. For those of you who don't know a circuit is a line (usually a wire) that lets electricity flow through it. A magnet is an item that uses a magnetic force to stick to iron.

To prove to us that electricity flows through a wire we did an experiment with 2 wires, a D-cell (battery), and a small light bulb. My group got it to work so we were pretty proud about that. You can try it at home if you have these materials because I did. But remember never put water near an electrical item or you could get a very bad shock that could injure or kill you.

Keep reading our great blog! Bye
